Trail Overview

As you depart the National Forest systems of Texas, you start coming into Texas farmland. You will cross the Trinity River a couple of times while paralleling it for miles. Coal mining is still prevalent in this region as a fuel for power plants. You will find a variety of camping from State Park full hook-ups, to primitive camp spots on lakes. This section is 60% non paved and 100% scenic. Rain or wet roads can stop you in your tracks across the northern part.

Was a couple days after a big rainfall. Dirt roads were slick and muddy. Started at highway 84 between Palistine and buffalo and headed south to Sam Houston National Forest in Huntsville. Was a fun ride. One road had a barricade. Didn’t overthink it just doubled back a couple miles and picked up the trail down the road.

Fun route to explore some less seen parts of Texas. Be advised that the bridge on country road 301 near Duncan is being rebuilt. Just drop down and reconnect with the trail. On the north portion of the trail there are portions that are two track roads. When wet these tracks should be avoided. Traction boards recommend if you try, limited opportunities to be able to winch out if on your own.
