Trail Overview

The Trappers Lake trail is a long, well-maintained gravel road that is one of the highlights of the Superior North Shore. It winds steadily through forested terrain and is located near the town of Isabella, accessible via Wanless Road. It passes by a wetland area early on and intersects with several smaller trails, many of which are heavily overgrown and not suitable for vehicle travel. The main trail crosses a wooden bridge over a scenic river and continues to offer a smooth, easy ride throughout its length. Further along, the trail reaches a key intersection that provides access to several destinations, including Crooked Lake, Hog Creek, Takiwishi Lake--which is known for its good camping options--Windy Lake, and Harriet Lake. The trail intersects with the Dmir Grade ATV trail and continues past Arrowhead Creek, offering a quiet and scenic stretch through the woods. One of the highlights along the route is the Eighteenth Lake campsite, which is a peaceful spot with three established campsites. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and the campground also has water access and a basic toilet facility. While the main trail is straightforward, it's worth noting that amenities are limited outside the campsite, and the area may have poor or no cell service. The trail does not provide trash disposal or potable water, and cell service may be unreliable or unavailable.
