Trail Overview
This scenic route explores the western portion of the Otay Mountain Truck Trail, passing below Otay Mountain (3,501 feet) with sweeping views of the valleys and hills of Tijuana, Mexico. The drive follows mostly double-wide gravel roads with some single-lane sections around tight turns, many equipped with mirrors to help with two-way traffic. Along the way, you'll pass near the historic Minnewawa WWII bunkers, located below the main peak of Otay Mountain, a reminder of the area's wartime history. The route also travels through an active border region, so U.S. Border Patrol vehicles are commonly seen along the trail. The route is high-clearance 2WD-friendly when staying on the guided portion of the trail.
