FS 9664

Trail Overview

FS 9664 is an awesome "out-and-back" trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located near Gilbert Lake & East Harrison Road, this trail is easily accessible. Starting out, you'll begin on a sandy/dirt/grassy two-track along a row of tall twisty trees. Shortly into the trail, you'll come across some ruins of an old building. Nothing has been posted at the site or online with historical facts of what this building used to be, but it's clear from the rubble that it's been a remnant for many years. Shortly after, you'll descend down a bit of a sandy wash where the trail narrows with tight trees and overgrown vegetation. As you weave along the route, you'll encounter a large section of towering pine trees. The trail ends in an open grassy field with plenty of space to park and stretch your legs, go for a hike, or just simply loop around to head back out of the trail. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, and regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's a fantastic route to explore with a lot of fun to be had! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands and the nearby private landowners so future generations can have access to these trails!
