Trail Overview

Section 8 (FS 705) is a fading gravel dirt forest service road within the Willow Springs Unit of Mark Twain National Forest. Section 8 logistically connects between the Middle Ridge FS 424 on the east, and the Howell County Road 5830 on the west. The road features a thinning gravel, and natural dirt surface, as a single lane track through the thick foliage and nearby tree lines. It traverses the ridge tops from the east to go down a hillside on the west. Small fallen trees were present on the trail during documentation.

Difficulty

Section 8 is given a 1/10 base rating for having small 6" trees over the trail, giving small obstacles to watch out for. It is also safe to expect mild dirt and gravel road complications, such as potholes, the gravel fading into dirt or foliage, and the potential to become surface mud. There is also mild erosion on the western hill. Unsung difficulty is the tight pinstriping trees and foliage along this semi-narrow single-lane road. Difficulty could increase in times of serious heavy use, lack of maintenance, or from wet and inclement conditions.
