Trail Overview
Branching off the main Bun Creek spine, the Shuttle Camp spur is a very brief but incredibly rewarding 0.5-mile track that serves up the ultimate coastal dispersed basecamp. The route navigates upward through a recovering coastal forest, characterized by towering, moss-draped evergreens and recently harvested timber zones flanked by large slash piles. The trail culminates at an expansive, leveled clearing--a former logging landing that has been repurposed into a massive dispersed campsite. This wide-open, gravel footprint is ideal for hosting a large group of friends and multiple overland rigs. Its prime location makes it the perfect staging ground for mountain bikers looking to tackle the newly minted flow trails crafted by TORTA within the adjacent Buzzard Butte network. The true crown jewel of this camp, however, is the breathtaking, unobstructed, and elevated panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and coastal estuaries below. Campers can gather around the fire ring and watch the sun dip below the horizon, making this short detour an absolute must-visit.

Difficulty
The technical difficulty of the Shuttle Camp spur is relatively low, making the destination accessible to most vehicles and all high-clearance rigs and overland setups. The "2" rating is assigned primarily due to the unmaintained, rough gravel tread that defines the 0.5-mile climb. Uneven patches, embedded rocks, and minor ruts require drivers to keep their speed in check to prevent jarring impacts and protect their suspension. Four-wheel drive is not necessary during dry summer conditions; maintaining a slow, controlled pace is essential to navigate the bumpy, industrial terrain safely before reaching the flat, accommodating landing.
