With The Story Till Now

Join in as Shaun from The Story Till Now and some friends from Up North head into the frigid Canadian Rockies. Icy river crossings, gorgeous views, and a lot of slipping and sliding await along the Ghost River Valley Route.

New onX Offroad Route:

Ghost River Valley

This winter-only route (portions are only open from Dec-March) features icy river crossings, a frozen creek trail, and world-class views of the Canadian Rockies over three frigid days. Start at TransAlta Falls trailhead, bounce off the border of Banff National Park, and catch a lookout at Limestone Mountain with a couple of epic campsites along the way.

Start the route at the TransAlta Falls trailhead. This section is accessible to vehicles with good snow traction as access is only legal from December to March when the waterfall is frozen. Brave a few river crossings until you reach the border of Banff National Park at the foot of the Rockies. Double back along the same route and look out for a good camp spot.

On Day 2, head back to the trailhead, and take a hard left to travel up the fairly smooth Forestry Trunk Road. Check out a frozen creek trail that can only be done in winter and don’t miss the lookout point on Limestone Mountain. After visiting those two spots, double back to the second campsite and head out to the main road in the morning.

*Note – parts of the route can be closed due to seasonality.
