Trail Overview
This is a dirt-based forest road that starts on State of Washington land and then travels into the Okanogan National Forest. At the beginning, there is a water crossing that is approximately a foot deep, but the ground is made of cement paving stones and provides traction. The trail has lots of washboard until you cross into the National Forest, and the road transitions to dirt. There are minor ruts and wash as you climb the many switchbacks over 2,300 feet in elevation. There are some ledges and drop-offs, but there is room to pass should you encounter another vehicle. The trail ends just short of where the map showed it to go, due to a major washout that has taken the road away and turned it into a canyon. At the end, there is a large area for camping, and you have incredible views of the surrounding peaks and ridges. This trail could be ridden by any vehicle type. From the beginning of the trail, you are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest supplies and services in the town of Winthrop, Washington. Cell phone service is weak, and there are no amenities along the trail.
