Trail Overview

This is a fun side trail to explore near the base of Mt. St. Helens for an easy drive through varied terrain, over the Kalama River (very narrow and close to its headwaters), past ski trails, and lots of potential dispersed camping. Enjoy views of Mt. St. Helens and rocky peaks at nearly every curve, and explore a couple of additional side trails from an intersection that sprawls along the edge of the 2022 Kalama Fire. The trail is sufficiently wide to navigate, with some pull-offs in case you meet people along the climb.

Difficulty

During dry summer months, this is an easy drive, but following a heavy period of rain or in the rainy months, it could be very muddy, especially near the edge of the burn, due to smooth surfaces and potential slide activity. The road may not be accessible (or easily accessible) in snow.

History

This area surrounding Cinnamon Peak was impacted by the 2022 Kalama Fire. Some portions of hiking trails (#204 Cinnamon Trail and #242A Kalama Falls Trail) are closed or altered, and you can see the aftermath of the burn in the vegetation and land.
