Trail Overview

Cayuse Creek Cruise is the route that takes you from Pumphouse, east, down to the Columbia River. From the river, you can break off north or south for further adventuring. The route has an off-camber section and trails that can be deeply rutted from rain runoff. The L.T. Murray Wildlife Area, Whiskey Dick Unit is closed to motor vehicles from February 1st to May 1st for Elk migrations. This shrubsteppe habitat provides great views of the Wild Horse Wind Farm, Columbia River, Sentinel Gap, and the Saddle Mountains. With almost 30,000 acres of land, this area offers amazing trails, with everything from gentle rolling hills, to steep off-camber, and rocky sections. Wildflowers in the spring are stunning. Use caution; in the summer, this area can be very hot, with high winds. Be prepared, as there is limited cell coverage in many areas.

Dust wasn’t very bad but roads are rough and slow going. Beautiful wide open vistas, wild flowers and wild life. Would be great camping in the spring and fall. I camped just the final drop down to the river to avoid the mosquitos.

Trail was in great condition; I thought this was the nicest of all the trails we ran in terms of condition and views. (We also ran Pumphouse, Homestead and Jacknife ridge road).
