Trail Overview

Star Chapel, designated as Forest Road 401, is a seasonally open trail with access windows from January 1 through January 31, April 1 through May 31, and September 1 through December 31. For a seasonal route, it is surprisingly well-maintained, with a consistent gravel surface throughout. The trail remains easy overall, with only a few muddy patches and several 6- to 8-inch dips near the end. These features elevate the difficulty rating to a 2. If these obstacles are avoided, a 2WD vehicle would have no trouble traveling the route. Vegetation overgrowth is minimal, and the corridor stays open. Cell signal is limited along most of the trail.
