Trail Overview

Archer Run is a basic trail in Virginia's George Washington National Forest. It is mainly a dirt road, with some areas of minor rockiness. It meanders through the mountains of western Virginia, offering good views of the surrounding ridge lines and valleys. The trail has several switchbacks, which break up the monotony and keep it interesting. The trail doesn't offer many campsites, but the ones that it does have are pretty decent. The trail isn't heavily traveled, which makes the handful of campsites even more appealing.

Light rain today. The creeks are very dry. Easy gravel and hard earth trail with occasional 3-4 inch pothole puddles for any type of vehicle. Very wide trail, no chance of pinstriping unless you venture off the main trail. Aired down to 30psi just to make it a little more comfortable, but not necessary. All done in 2WD. Bring a trash bag or two to clean up all the bottles and cans thrown out by trashy people over the years. About 5-10% of the trail has some sort of trash in sight, including 5-6 mattresses, 15-20 tires down the sides of the hills, and several deer carcasses near the trailheads ruining the otherwise beautiful views. This trail deserves a cleanup by an offroad club or a community service group!
