Trail Overview

Water Canyon-Hell Dive Canyon Road-BLM052 is a 1.9-mile sand and slick rock trail with steep descents and climbs through several washes and is rated 4 of 10. This short but moderately difficult trail provides a shortcut to the Hell Dive Pictograph site at the end of BLM051. Recent storms have caused severe erosion to several parts of the trail which during summer months may be much easier to negotiate. There are several steep descents or climbs out of rocky washes along this route. The alternate route is to use BLM051. This trail is suited to high clearance 4x4 vehicles and is not recommended for light duty 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles. This is a remote area and there are no services or cell phone coverage in the area.

Difficulty

The trail consists of loose rock, dirt, and sand with some slickrock surfaces. Some erosion; washes, gulches, and rock steps no higher than 18". Tall tires (33" plus) and a limited slip would be a plus. 4WD is required. Enhanced suspension travel and good ground clearance are helpful.

Access Description

Drive 8 miles north of Kanab on Highway 89 and turn west onto Hancock Road until you reach Sandy Springs Road-BLM050, turn south, and follow BLM050 until you reach BLM052.
