Trail Overview

This is a portion of what can be combined with two other trails to make a fun loop of approximately 45 miles of trails, all rated in the easy category. This trail starts on the edge of Panguitch, Utah, and traverses rolling hills with fabulous views of the surrounding area. This is a well-traveled local road/trail that wanders northward, paralleling Highway 89 to the east. If you keep your eye out, there are numerous antelopes in the area. Also, be cautious, as one of the local ranchers' cows may have wandered out and be on the road. This portion of the loop terminates at the Spry Cemetery. This is a historic cemetery and is worth the stop to walk around and see the family names of many who risked everything to homestead this area. You are also just west of the location where Fort Stanford was located in the late 1800s. Nothing remains of that fort today. If you are only interested in the cemetery, it can be accessed from Highway 89 with a sign pointing to the cemetery.

Difficulty

This is a very easy road that can be navigated by any vehicle. There are some rocks, so if your vehicle has lower clearance, be cautious. It is also a local road for those living out here to get into town. They may be going a little fast, so keep your eye out.

Access Description

The start of the trail has minimal parking locations for vehicles and trailers. It is strongly recommended that you use the local fairgrounds location as a staging area for groups. The advantage to this is that there is a well-maintained public restroom at the site just off Highway 89 on the north end of Panguitch Main Street. The town is UTV-friendly as long as you are courteous and follow speed limits. There are limited eating opportunities early in the day, but later, they have some good local establishments. Their hours do vary by time of year, as this is more of a non-winter area for tourists.
