Trail Overview

Silver Island Pass is a short trail that connects the east and west sides of the Silver Island Backcountry Byway. It could be used as a cutoff for those not looking to complete the full byway loop. The road is wide, graded, and consists mostly of gravel. On the west side, there is one flat wash and what appears to be a very small silt bed, which could be problematic after recent rains heavy enough to soften the road surface.

Access Description

Exit Interstate 80 as you would for the Bonneville Salt Flats. Just before the access road takes a hard right towards the speedway, turn left onto Leepy Pass Road. The Silver Island Mountain Backcountry Byway begins shortly after; look for the BLM Byway sign off to the right. You can either turn right onto the dirt and drive the east side of the byway or continue up over Leepy Pass for a few miles, where you'll turn right at the summit just before the fenced-off building to drive the west side of the byway. Silver Island Pass bisects the byway loop almost in the middle.
