Trail Overview
Sampsonite is a 3.6-mile point-to-point trail rated 4 of 10 located within the Sand Mountain Open Riding OHV Area. Sampsonite weaves its way through the desert washes on the east side of the central range and across the lower slick rock of the mountain. The trail is not as well established as some of the older trails but is still well-defined. The trail includes some moderately deep sand track, "V-notches" and some up-and-overs. Vehicles with stock ground clearance can expect to scrap a belly skid plate once or twice. There are several tight turns that long-wheelbase vehicles may need to jockey back and forth in order to navigate. Although this trail can be run without additional traction aids there are a couple of obstacles where they certainly help. Cell phone service is generally good throughout the trail and the nearest services are located in Hurricane.

A winch would be a plus. Enhanced suspension travel and good ground clearance are also required.
