Trail Overview
Non-Resident OHV permits apply to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. Plated street-legal vehicles typically do not need one on legal motorized routes. This trail may be short in mileage, but it packs a surprising amount of challenge into a small distance. The beginning section is manageable for a stock high-clearance 4x4, with only minor washouts and easier terrain as you approach the base of the climb. After roughly half a mile, the route gains around 429 feet in elevation and becomes much more technical. The climb is rocky throughout, with loose stone, embedded rock, and scattered boulders lining the trail. Depending on the width and wheelbase of your vehicle, some of those rocks may need to be driven over or carefully maneuvered around. One tighter section resembles a V-notch, where body damage is possible if line choice is poor or the vehicle is larger in size. At the summit, the reward is excellent panoramic views over Long Valley and the Yellow Cat area. Be aware that the top offers limited space for parking, turning around, or staging multiple rigs.

Difficulty
This trail begins relatively easy, but the steep 429-foot climb quickly increases the challenge. Rocky terrain, boulders that may require precise tire placement, washouts, and a tight V-notch section with potential for body damage make this a more technical route than its short length suggests. Because the climb gains elevation rapidly and can require sustained low-speed effort, engine and oil temperatures are an important consideration, especially in hot weather or heavily loaded rigs.
