Trail Overview

This trail extends the Hog Canyon BLMHC4 to Pinnacles Trail, through 2.5 miles of sand and slick rock. The trail in places is deep, soft sand. The rock formations are moderate, which is why we rated the trail a 5, but at the end where it connects to the Mosdell Trail (BLM HC1Z), there is a "Caution" sign put out by the BLM, and it's a very steep trail with big rock obstacles and loose dirt. For that last 20 yards, we'd rate it a 7, but the whole trail doesn't require that rating. Our SXSs were 72" and 68" wide with 32" tires, and we all made it up the last steep section with minimal problems. The slick rock formations are fun! In some areas, there are options, where one path is more difficult than another. The scenery is amazing in Hog Canyon. You've got spectacular views of the canyons and across the top of the mountains. In February of 2023, Utah began enforcement of a new law, which requires an online education course for all off-roaders. The free course is available online. Google "Utah OHV Education Course," and the free test will pop up. It's an easy test that will only take 15-30 minutes, and it's required for all off-roaders, Jeeps, SXSs, dirt bikes, and ATVs. Kids under the age of 18 will have to take the Youth Education Test at the same site. After completing the test, print out the certificate to carry with you which shows you completed the course. We have taken it, and it's really no big deal. Good reminders about trail etiquette and trail preservation.

Difficulty

You will come across slick rock formations, which are not difficult. The final hill going up to the Mosdell Trail is a 7 because it's got loose dirt, big rocks and it's very steep.
