Stretching across 6.75 miles, Forest Road 30090 serves as an official segment of the renowned Utah portion of the Great Western Trail. This highly scenic, twisty, and single-lane dirt track guides explorers deep into a majestic, towering pine forest. As you navigate the winding corridor, the vibrant red dirt tread contrasts beautifully against the dense evergreen pines and the bright blue skies above. Because this area is situated at a higher elevation, drivers traveling during the spring months will consistently encounter lingering snow patches and damp slush clinging to the road's shoulders. Along the journey, you will spot designated dispersed camping zones, clearly marked by numbered wooden posts--such as Site 7--offering peaceful, flat clearings for an overnight stay. Additionally, there are informational map kiosks positioned along the track to help orient drivers within the vast forest network. This segment of the Great Western Trail firmly earns a Level 2 Easy rating due to its persistently uneven and off-camber erosion ruts. While the single-lane dirt track is relatively straightforward, the undulating ruts require drivers to maintain a steady line to avoid scraping their vehicle's undercarriage. Although standard 2WD vehicles with decent ground clearance can navigate this during dry summer months, the presence of seasonal spring snow and soft, muddy slush makes an AWD crossover or stock 4x4 highly recommended to maintain traction and prevent slipping laterally into the deeper tracks.
