Trail Overview
This is a fun, short side trip into a piece of the life of a local legend. Butch Cassidy was an infamous outlaw whose life was portrayed in the classic Robert Redford movie. He roamed all over this region. He was continually being hunted, so he found or built locations to hide when the sheriff would get upset at his activities. He and his fellow thieves would hide until things cooled off. One of those hideouts is a short walk up the hill from the parking area at the end of the track. He supposedly liked this location because it was very defensible. They could also hide their horses farther up the hill in a corral, still there, for a getaway if things turned bad. Butch Cassidy's childhood home is located to the north, just south of Circleville. The historic site can be accessed from the trail or Highway 89, with a great parking area and bathroom.
