Trail Overview

This is a fun alternative to returning on East Fork Sevier Road to Scenic Byway 12 from Tropic Reservoir. This will take you up to a ridge that includes exceptional views to the west towards Proctor Canyon and the Hatch area. You will need to take a very short hike to the top of the little ridge at the short trail turn around at the top. There are some beautiful sandstone cliffs and great examples of the somewhat unique bristle pine trees. These tree branches look like bottle brushes because of their shape. This is also a great location to take a break or have lunch. Be on the lookout for wildlife as they are plentiful in the area.

Difficulty

The upper portions of this trail are somewhat rocky and rough. Nothing that a good 4WD vehicle should not handle easily. Some of the rocks are on the large side for lower vehicles. This is primarily on the section between Proctor Canyon Road and the top of the ridge. Going down there are a couple of washes to contend with, but if there have not been any significant storms, these should not be an issue. This road does receive occasional maintenance.
