Trail Overview

BLM 115 is an incredibly scenic, smooth, and remarkably fast-paced single-lane dirt route that serves as a fantastic backcountry connection between the small town of Alton and the Glendale Bench Road. Stretching out over 12.9 miles, this beautifully secluded track winds its way through a vibrant high-desert landscape filled with fragrant sagebrush, gently rolling green hills, and scattered juniper forests. Because the road was newly and thoroughly graded in April 2026, the vivid red dirt tread is exceptionally soft, providing a highly comfortable, floating drive under expansive, bright blue skies. Along the journey, you will parallel rustic wooden and wire fence lines, passing by clear private property boundaries that must be strictly respected. As you crest the higher elevations of the route, the landscape dramatically opens up to reveal sweeping, magnificent views of distant red rock cliffs and sprawling, painted valleys. However, a strict weather warning absolutely applies to this trail: explorers must only travel this route during perfectly dry conditions, as the newly graded, soft dirt will instantly transform into deep, impassable mud following a rainstorm.

Difficulty

BLM 115 comfortably earns a Level 2 Easy rating primarily due to a series of short but punchy, steeper climbs and descents that interrupt the otherwise flat transit. While the vast majority of the 12.9-mile route is exceptionally smooth, fast, and newly graded, these sudden elevation changes feature bumpier, slightly rockier soil that requires a driver to pay attention and maintain steady momentum. A high-clearance 2WD vehicle, standard AWD crossover, or stock SUV can effortlessly conquer this route in dry weather. However, due to the incredibly soft nature of the recently graded dirt, this road is highly susceptible to severe rutting and slick, zero-traction mud. Absolutely do not attempt this drive if it has rained recently or if rain is in the immediate forecast.
