Trail Overview

Smith Ranch Road is a very remote backcountry road on the southern end of Big Bend Ranch State Park. It offers a quiet and isolated drive far from the main routes. The trail runs through rugged desert terrain and leads to the Crawford-Smith Ranch trail, where an old ranch house sits as a historic point of interest. Along the way, the route crosses a dry creek and winds through open desert with a true off-the-grid feel.

Difficulty

On this trail, you'll find a dirt and gravel surface with sections of loose rock, uneven terrain, and areas of rutting. The route includes a dry creek crossing and some rocky sections that can require careful tire placement. After rain, muddy areas can become slick and may require a 4WD to safely navigate. While much of the trail is manageable in dry conditions, certain sections can become more challenging depending on the weather and terrain. Overall, this trail is easy to moderate but can require 4WD in specific conditions.
