Trail Overview
Branch 1A of the Twin Springs Cutoff is a short but scenic spur that leads to the back side of the Granite Ridge Lodge. It's an easy drive, just a bit rocky in spots, and stays close to the highway--making it a perfect pull-in for a quiet overnight or weekend basecamp. A few mellow offshoots branch off into the timber, offering surprising solitude this close to pavement. Pines thin out as you get higher, revealing some open rock and partial views of the surrounding granite ridgelines. This spot doesn't see much through-traffic, and there's plenty of flat ground for tents or small trailers. Elk and deer move through at dusk, especially during shoulder seasons. If you're just getting into the hills and want a quick, peaceful setup before going deeper, this is a solid bet. Pack in, pack out, leave no trace, and tread lightly.
