Trail Overview
This trail kicks off at the junction with Forest Service Road 189.2 just south of Flag Mountain, then climbs an exposed ridgeline that showcases some of the best open views in the southern Black Hills. The road is rough and rocky in quite a few stretches, with loose gravel, granite outcrops, and a handful of mud holes. No shade up here--expect high winds on the ridge. Trees can fall without warning, so bring a chainsaw. Flag Mountain and the surrounding lookouts provide reference points--you begin just off 189.2 and stay above timberline much of the way, so the ridge is wide open. The trail is unmaintained and remote, meaning it can turn sketchy fast after rain, snow, or heavy wind

Difficulty
This trail features a few steeper climbs and rock gardens that keep this trail above a 3 but below a 5. Expect conditions to be treacherous at best during rains and the muddy season. Mud holes and rocky off-camber corners with incline make this fun and enjoyable ride.
