Trail Overview
Beginning near the campground, this trail serves as a main route into the southern section. Initially, the trail is easy and consists of mostly compact sand. Once past the intersection with Mercy Lane, mud pits begin forming, with varying degrees of difficulty depending on recent weather conditions. As you near Yellow Lake, the mud pits get larger, and the trail becomes more technical. Lifted vehicles with mud tires may have no problems in this section, but stock vehicles will need to carefully choose their line. The pits are exceptionally wide and deep; however, most have a bypass around them when the weather has been dry. Once reaching the river, the trail follows along a scenic bluff that leads to Jeffries Creek, which is a great place to stop and enjoy the view. Larger vehicles (over 60") will find the bypasses through the trees difficult due to tree spacing.
