Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest. The route provides access to Farewell Corner and the Hell Hole Bay Wilderness. This route was spilled because the second half of the road turned into a very muddy and rutted-out road. However, the first section of Farewell Corner RD is a well-maintained gravel road.
