The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forest ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest. This route provides access between two of the Francis Marion National Forest Regions. Most of the route is through dense tree cover and follows a well-maintained road.
