Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest is located north of Charleston, South Carolina. It is named for Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was known to the British as the Swamp Fox. It lies entirely within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion. The park is also entirely in a subtropical coniferous forest. This route is located in the southern section of Francis Marion National Forest and is a hard-packed high-speed road allowing further access into the National Forest. There are numerous spur trails off of this main trail. There is a major issue with trash dumping in this area of the forest, so please respect the Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly principles to minimize your impact on this area. Local high school cross country teams use this stretch of road in the morning on various weekends so watch for runners on the road.
