Trail Overview
Lower Saddle - A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. Lower Saddle is a long-standing trail of Rock Run Recreation, although it never had a name until the Fall of 2025. As it travels on the lower ground below Saddleback Campground, Lower Saddle is entirely out in open meadow and is 6/10ths of a mile in length. It is mostly a dirt trail with embedded rocks, though there are some loose rocks, along with potential rutting and changing trail conditions due to use and water runoff in locations. It offers views of two different surrounding valleys, along with the former Green Tank area from the past coal mining days. One end of Lower Saddle starts on Trail 5 and the other end on Trail 5D. It passes Clayworks Drive in two different locations and does have a leg off to access Saddleback Campground. It should be able to be traversed by most any rider on a motorcycle, ATV, or SxS with little skill. At less than a tenth of a mile in length, this trail is part of the larger network at Rock Run. This trail is open to bikes, ATVs, and SxSs. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. Trail driven and documented in November 2025.
