Trail Overview

Coal Haul Road - A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. Located on the Southern end of the facility, Coal Haul Road is the main throughfare to access the park. Coal Haul Road is an improved stone roadway, two vehicles wide for the entire 2.7 miles. Longtime riders of Rock Run will realize that Coal Haul Road was improved in the 2025 season as part of the windmill construction project. As part of the project, portions were realigned, and both the grades and turns were made less pronounced. One end starts near Red Oak Campground at the intersection of Blue Lagoon Boulevard, and the other end intersects with Rouge's Harbor Road. At the Rouge's Harbor Road intersection, you encounter the bottleneck of the facility, splitting the park between the Northern and Southern sections, with this being the main route between the two. Main Street also intersects with Coal Haul Road, giving riders direct access from the parking areas to the trail system. Coal Haul Road passes by multiple sites of interest, including the former Green Tank area, the 5-Bay Garage, and several windmills, all while offering multiple intersections with various trails for riding opportunities. Despite this road being improved, be aware of the loose stone, potential dust in dry weather, and potential washouts after heavy rain. Please adhere to the posted speed limit for the safety of all users. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. This trail is open to all vehicle types.
