Trail Overview

Training Day is a short and easy SxS trail for vehicles 65 inches or less in the Mount Emily Recreation Area. It is a gradual descent from north to south, on a wide dirt trail with small loose rocks, waterbars, and shallow ruts. The north end starts on Rock Pit Road 215. The trail is mildly shelfy, paralleling a ravine, but mostly just going through tall pine trees, grassy hillsides, and meadows. It parallels the main road near the south end, before popping out at the staging area. It drops just 250 feet elevation in 0.7 miles, making it semi-steep, but still a very approachable grade for less experienced riders. This can be used as an access trail into the trail system, as it is one of the first trails accessed from the staging area, so watch out for two-way traffic.

Access Description

The Mount Emily Recreation Area (MERA) is located on Foxhill Road, north of the town of La Grande, Oregon. The road to access the staging area is a graded dirt road, but it has a 17% grade, so be prepared for a steep climb up to the parking area. There is a large staging area and campground at the south end of the trail system. This trail system accesses several SxS trails for vehicles 65 inches or less, plus single-track and 4x4 trails, and allows two-way traffic, and is well-marked and family-friendly. There is a youth riding area with a kids' track south of the staging area.
