Trail Overview
Portland Mills Road is an effortlessly smooth and highly accessible 3.2-mile graded gravel track that serves as a high-speed corridor through the vibrant coastal forest. Functioning as an active, dual-purpose artery for both heavy commercial logging operations and eager off-road enthusiasts, this straightforward route provides seamless access to a multitude of surrounding OHV trailheads. As you cruise comfortably along the predictable, meticulously maintained surface under a canopy of towering evergreens, the dense forest frequently gives way to vast, sun-drenched clearings. These elevated openings reveal expansive regional views of the rolling mountain ranges. Along the journey, travelers will discover numerous flat, accommodating abandoned logging pads repurposed into scenic dispersed campsites. The placid, low-stress drive culminates perfectly at the junction with Jordan Creek Road, where two excellent, designated campsites complete with established fire rings stand ready to serve as a convenient weekend basecamp.

Difficulty
From a technical off-road perspective, this incredibly effortless and heavily maintained route presents absolutely zero challenge, making it a true Level 1 experience. The flat, uniformly graded gravel tread is easily manageable by any standard passenger car, 2WD vehicle, or large overland rig. There are no steep ledges, deep ruts, or complex obstacles to navigate on this uncomplicated path. The primary "difficulty" stems entirely from maintaining strict situational awareness. Because this highly accessible, fast-paced track is actively utilized by heavy commercial logging machinery and fast-moving OHV traffic, drivers must control their speed around blind corners and remain continuously vigilant, ready to safely yield the right-of-way at a moment's notice.
