Trail Overview

Beware! If you value your vehicle's pristine showroom paint, this trail is absolutely not for you. Miles Mountain is a claustrophobic, heavily overgrown two-track that guarantees a relentless chorus of branches scraping down your side panels. Plunging deep into a lush, moss-draped, old-growth section of the coastal forest, this route is a grueling 0.6-mile crawl. Drivers will find themselves constantly wiggling the steering wheel, fighting a slow and mostly losing battle to minimize the inevitable pinstriping from the aggressive coastal scrub. Once a much longer through-route, nature has fiercely reclaimed the right-of-way. The drivable track now abruptly dead-ends at a massive fallen tree, with thick, undisturbed grass on the far side confirming this natural barricade has blocked passage for years. Fortunately, just before this impenetrable deadfall, a beautifully secluded and level clearing provides a fantastic, hidden dispersed campsite perfectly sized for one or two vehicles seeking ultimate, quiet forest isolation.

Difficulty

The technical difficulty here isn't rooted in deep mud or jagged rock crawling, but rather in its extraordinarily tight clearances and spatial commitments. Taking 30 minutes to travel just 0.6 miles underscores the agonizingly slow pace required to weave through the dense, encroaching foliage. Severe pinstriping is completely unavoidable. Furthermore, this single-lane green tunnel offers absolutely zero room to pull off or turn around before the end. Encountering an oncoming vehicle--or realizing your rig is too wide--would necessitate a lengthy, blind, and painfully difficult reverse through the scraping brush.
