Trail Overview

This off-road trail leads adventurers to a creek along narrow, wet UTV pathways. The route appears to be poorly maintained, featuring rocky, off-camber sections with relatively steep ascents and descents. It passes over several beautiful creeks, adding to its rugged charm. As the drive continues, the trail gradually narrows and is bordered by dense woodland, although a designated turnaround area exists before it becomes too confined. In certain areas, young pine trees intrude into the roadway, while fallen trees intermittently block the path. As you drive further, the trail deteriorates further, leading to a pond with a cleared area just before the split, where signs of camping and subsistence logging are evident. Signage clearly indicates that no ATVs may cross the river to access the rocky trail on the opposite side, and travelers should exercise caution due to the muddy conditions in that section. While the trail does offer a few dispersed campsites, it lacks amenities such as trash disposal and water supply, and cell service is limited throughout the area.

History

The Ouachita National Forest was established in 1907, making it the oldest national forest in the South. Long before that, Native American tribes like the Caddo and Choctaw lived and traveled through these mountains. In the late 1800s, settlers arrived for logging and mining, but concerns about preserving the land led to federal protection. Today, the forest covers over 1.8 million acres across Arkansas and Oklahoma. With its rugged ridges, clear streams, and diverse wildlife, the Ouachita remains a place where nature and history meet--and every trail tells part of the story.
