Trail Overview
Pringle Road is a forest service road that provides access to numerous trails and areas within Croatan National Forest. The road itself is well-maintained, with only a few scattered potholes and ruts. Alongside the road are several deep, optional mud pits--some of which can reach a couple of feet in depth. These pits vary in thickness and depth depending on recent rainfall, making the risk of getting stuck higher during wetter conditions. In addition to the mud pits, drivers will also encounter areas with loose sand and occasional water holes. The sand can be several inches deep and may pose a challenge, while the water holes can reach up to 18 inches in depth during wet periods. All of these obstacles are optional and can be bypassed. Several trails branch off Pringle Road, varying in length and terrain. Note that some of the southern trails may pass through private property, so use caution and verify access before proceeding. While the road may be tempting to drive quickly, hikers, wildlife, and other vehicles are common, so attentive and respectful driving is recommended.
