Trail Overview

The graveyard is a gradually ascending canyon trail that is a combination of rocks and dirt with some smaller obstacles and rock gardens along the route. There are two gates within the first 1/4 mile, they are marked to keep closed as there are cattle in the area. This trail is prone to areas of washout that can make it impassable after heavy rain or snow melt, and also has the potential for shallow water crossings. Rutting is present and can be substantial in some areas with rut depths in excess of 15 inches, and during rain or snow, the mud can be very slippery and may increase the already present rutting. This trail has been repaired multiple times due to washout, take note of the weather during rainy seasons as the surface can and will degrade quickly. Some of the trails is slightly off-camber and should be taken with caution if the trail is muddy. There are some small areas good for dispersed camping along the route, but due to the makeup of the terrain, they are tight areas good for one vehicle or a ground tent. The higher elevated sections of the trail do open up to some views of the surrounding canyon and taller mountains in the distance. The trail also features a couple of hiking trails and additional spurs. There is no cell service in this area at lower elevations and very poor/weak service at the higher and more open sections of the trail. This trail is one vehicle wide with very little room to pass in most areas.
