Trail Overview

This route might be a good alternative route when certain sections of "Backway to Cabezon" are washed out. The trail coincides with BLM 1113 for some sections but is rerouted for the portion of BLM 1113 that is closed to vehicles. There is a wire gate that one must pass through; please be sure to close it after passing through. The trail offers some scenic views of deep-cut arroyos, desert vistas, and of course, Cabezon Peak. Avoid this trail when wet, for the mud is sticky and clay-like. The trail can be enjoyed during any time of year, but the heat in the summer can get pretty intense due to the lack of shade.

Difficulty

This is an easy trail that starts off on a well-manicured graded road, but the western end has some moderate ruts, a few washed-out areas, and a handful of spots that are slightly off-camber.
