Trail Overview
The route takes you from Sand Mt. Recreational Area to the Red Ant Mine. Red Ant Mine was an old tungsten mine. Not much of the infrastructure is left. There is a head frame, a collapsed 50's era airstream trailer, and concrete foundations for a bucket line that once stretched across the valley. Didn't have a chance to explore the other side of the valley where the bucket line originated due to snow. The road across Salt Wells Marsh was well-groomed and two lanes wide. Past Roys Point the road narrows and follows a sandy wash. Snow in the winter perverted us from exploring the area further.
Difficulty
The trail is wide, well-groomed, and leads to a sand wash. Snow in the winter months can prevent travel at higher elevations.
