Trail Overview

This is a scenic trail that takes you to several viewpoints high above Boulder City and the Las Vegas Valley. The trailhead is accessed just outside of downtown Boulder City, Nevada. The trail is well-maintained and easily accessible to any high-clearance vehicle. There are several mountain bike trails nearby, so always watch out for traffic crossing the trail. The trail quickly gains elevation to a small parking area that overlooks Boulder City below and the Las Vegas Valley off in the distance. Looking to the top of the mountain reveals a VORTAC antenna which is used for aircraft navigation. Continue on through the River Mountains and take in the expansive desert views.

Not a level 2 for sure. Started from the west side by River mountain loop trail, immediate met with steep incline with very bumpy terrain, decided to turn around.

nice trail, nice views. far from a level 2 as stated before. took the detour early in the trail as pictured. decent step up a ways in, also pictured.

THIS IS NOT A LEVEL 2. Maybe once you get on the trail it is, but about 2 miles in you climb a hill that has sharp ledged rocks with loose gravel and sand. Heavily eroded. Very steep hill. You will possibly need a spotter but definitely down hill assist. I slipped in my 4Runner with 4WD and scratched up my skid plate pretty good. I turned around as soon as I could. May try again when I have a good spotter with me and am more prepared for a rough road. I know this is obvious, but it warrants a reminder as I saw this on a similar trail: DO NOT TRY AND TURN AROUND ON THE HILL. The roughness kinda sneaks up on you but you gotta push through to the top then turn around.

If I've learned anything today, always read the reports. This was definitely not 2, and faced more obstacles then I had planned for a night cruise.
