Trail Overview

Shawnee Creek, or Shannon County Road 211D is a gravel county road leading to an Ozark National Scenic Riverways campsite and Jacks Fork River access point for water floating of the area. The simple and graceful road features maintained gravel leading through a tree tunnel while paralleling next to Shawnee Creek to the immediate west. Ultimately the road leads to a double loop, featuring 6 established backcountry sites, and vault bathrooms, having a small fee per night in summer April 15th - October 15th, and are free in winter. The loop also has a great take-out/put-in location for kayaks and canoes alike having direct access to the road, providing easy loading, while avoiding the popularity of the downstream take-out/put-in at Two Rivers. Due to the lack of being well known, close proximity to Eminence, direct access to Jacks Fork, and the reasonable fee to use, this could be a favorite semi-hidden spot to camp in the region. Watch for the horse riders, the Shawnee Creek wild horse herd, and potential flooding scenarios.

Difficulty

Shawnee Creek is a simple 1/10 base-rated gravel road, showing only mild forms of erosion in spots, having a flat grade, with the potential of small natural 6" cobbles on the edges of the road and natural rock sticking out at the surface in the road. Expect the normal gravel road complications of potholes, mounding, and washboards. The road could become inaccessible in extreme scenarios of flooding in the creek area.
