Trail Overview

This trail offers a moderate off-road experience, featuring several short but steep hill climbs that will test your throttle control and traction. Along the way, you'll encounter rock obstacles scattered throughout the trail, with some reaching up to a foot tall. These natural features provide just enough challenge to keep drivers engaged without overwhelming less experienced wheelers. One particularly unique feature of this trail is a section that appears to be man-made, where trees have been laid horizontally to create an artificial obstacle. This adds a fun twist to the route, making it a great trail for drivers looking to improve their skills without venturing into extreme terrain.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
