Trail Overview
Gunflint Narrows is accessed from the paved Gunflint Road and begins at a large, unappealing gravel pit. From the start, the trail descends steeply and shows signs of water damage, requiring careful navigation. After this initial section, the trail enters a more scenic stretch of forest, narrowing to a single lane with occasional pull-offs to accommodate passing vehicles. As it continues, the route passes a small, picturesque lake and some impressive rock formations before eventually reaching another lake with several private residences offering views across to Canada. There is a public water access point near the end of the trail, which concludes at a turnaround area where a private road begins. No additional trails branch off from the main route, and while dispersed camping is not designated, the gravel pit at the trail's entrance could serve as an emergency option. There are no formal campsites, trash disposal, or potable water along the trail, and cell service may be limited.
