Trail Overview
This scenic and moderately challenging trail begins off Highway 1, crossing a bridge before continuing along a short stretch of gravel road through dense forest. The trail eventually connects with the Prospectors Trail. This trail includes several rocky, off-camber ascents and descents, particularly near the Highway 1 end, where full four-wheel drive is recommended. Deep mud pits are also present along the route and can cause vehicles to slide, especially after rain. The trail remains consistently rocky, creating a bumpy and slow-paced drive throughout. As the route winds through the forest, it offers a series of elevation changes and occasional views through gaps in the trees. The surrounding woods are scenic and well-traveled, so be aware of other users, particularly local drivers who frequent the area. There is a small clearing along the way that may be suitable for dispersed camping, though the area is undeveloped. Dispersed camping is generally permitted in the Superior National Forest, provided it is outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The trail does not offer amenities such as restrooms, potable water, or trash facilities, and cell phone coverage may be unreliable. Campers should follow Leave No Trace principles.
