Norway Truck Trail 1

Trail Overview

This is the Dickinson County, Michigan, Norway Truck Trail official trailhead. This trail starts at the trailhead located off Norway Truck Trail Road. There is a large parking lot for unloading and staging for a day of riding. This trail travels through old-growth forest and some areas that have been forested, with a mix of elevation changes as the trail moves from highlands into lowland swamps. Some elevation changes on this trail are steep, leading to washed-out trail conditions from previous rain. Most of this trail is just wide enough for a 64-inch SxS and is restricted to anything over 65. Several areas allow oncoming machines to pass each other. This is not a high-speed trail; this is slow and technical. The trail becomes even more technical after a recent rain, as all of the low areas fill up with a large amount of water and ruts that are created on the hillsides due to runoff. This trail is excellent for riders looking to slow down and find more technical terrain to test their skills.

Difficulty

This trail is capable of being completed by individuals with moderate off-road experience, however it will test some individuals' skills depending on recent weather conditions. A good set of tires and a winch or vehicle that can be used for recovery should be considered. This trail features several large mud holes with a depth of 6"-18". Additionally, some of these mud holes have large ruts in them, creating even deeper areas. There are also some that have steep ledges on one end that, depending on the direction of travel, will need to be climbed to exit. Several hillsides are washed out and eroded by rain. These can have large rocks exposed, as well as steep ledges. There is a significant amount of runoff throughout this trail, leading to slick, muddy conditions throughout. This is a two-track trail that, in most areas, is just wide enough for a 64in SxS. There are lots of spots to allow oncoming traffic to pass, however, there are many blind corners that block the view of oncoming traffic.
