Trail Overview
NFS 6024 is a short seasonal bidirectional trail located within the Manistee National Forest. Just north of Big Star Lake, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the west end, you'll begin on a dirt two-track trail that will transition into a thicker sandy surface as you navigate down the trail. This is worth noting for low clearance vehicles and heavy rigs. Lowering your tire pressure in conditions like this will gain more traction. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it still contains a great amount of beauty. The trail does have a couple of offshoots that have been blocked by the DNR. PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, stick to the designated trail, and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! Due to the sandy sections along the trail, several spots are washboards. The east end of the trail finishes at South Mack Road. Regardless of the conditions, this is a great trail!
