NFS 5149

Trail Overview

NFS 5149 is one of the best trails in Michigan due to its diverse scenery. This trail starts very bumpy over some large tree roots in a washed-out section. During inclement weather, this section could become more difficult. Most high clearance 4x4s should have no issue getting through these even after recent rain. However, shortly after, the trail smooths out into a winding classical Michigan Two-Track trail. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come prepared. This track weaves you around the Manistee National Forest and eventually leads to the Darkeys Marsh where several recreational activities take place such as hiking and wildlife viewing. Here you'll find a few dispersed campsites. If you plan on utilizing these, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, and seek more information at the local DNR Office/Ranger Station before camping here. Towards the end of the route, the trail crosses over the MCCCT Trail. The route finishes off at the intersection of NFS 5451 & 6336. All in all, this is an epic trail that is hard to beat! You won't be disappointed.
