Trail Overview

This challenging two-track begins with a short stretch of soft sand before quickly transitioning to hard-packed sandy terrain. From there, the trail takes on a rollercoaster-like character, over a series of steep hills, sharp descents, and constant elevation changes. The route becomes increasingly rugged as it progresses, with numerous rocks, exposed tree roots, uneven surfaces, and rough sections that require careful tire placement and attention to trail conditions. The South end of the trail is soft sand and the entrance to a favorite destination spot of many. Hippie Circle, as it's known locally, is a circular labyrinth walking path constructed from pieces of wood that are now old and often hidden by overgrown vegetation. The beginning of the labyrinth is identified by a tree stump and an assortment of objects and keepsakes left behind by previous visitors. Much of the trail travels beneath a dense canopy of mature trees, creating a secluded backcountry feel deep within the forest. Following periods of rain, standing water and mud can develop in low-lying areas, adding another layer of difficulty to the route. Steep hills throughout the trail are often rutted and uneven, with large exposed roots and embedded rocks creating additional challenges on both climbs and descents. The combination of frequent elevation changes, rough terrain, and tight wooded sections makes this trail a rewarding option for those seeking a more technical and engaging forest driving experience.

Difficulty

This trail receives its rating due to the combination of steep, rolling terrain and numerous natural obstacles. Drivers will encounter rocky sections, large exposed tree roots, rutted hill climbs and descents, uneven surfaces, and occasional water-filled depressions after rainfall. While the trail does not feature extreme rock crawling obstacles, the continuous technical terrain requires increased driver attention and careful tire placement throughout much of the route. Narrow wooded sections and low-hanging branches may also present challenges for full-size vehicles. Weather conditions can significantly increase the difficulty, particularly when wet areas, roots, and hills become slick.
