Trail Overview

Forest Service Road 9992 is a scenic and enjoyable trail that offers a little bit of everything for drivers looking to explore the diverse terrain of the Manistee National Forest. Traversing north to south, this route transitions from a faster-paced gravel road on the southern end to a narrow, two-track dirt trail as you move northward. The southern portion is wide, well-maintained, and easily accessible for most vehicle types, making for a smooth and relaxed drive. As you continue north, the trail becomes more rugged and remote. Trees begin to close in, creating a tighter corridor that adds to the sense of immersion in the forest. The northern end of FS 9992 culminates at a small turnaround area just a few feet from Slagle Creek, offering a peaceful spot to take a break or enjoy the natural surroundings. The southern access point is located off West 32nd Road. Due to spotty cell service in the area, offline maps are strongly recommended for navigation.
