Trail Overview
Calumet Mine Road Trail A is located in Dickinson County Michigan, and runs from its intersection with Sportsman Club Road, Trail A and Lyons Lake Road to the town of Felch where it intersects the Felch Grade. This trail, like other forest roads in this area, is wide with excellent sight lines throughout. Corners are long and sweeping, and remain as wide as the rest of the trail. The trail surface is a mix of loose, sandy gravel and hard-packed gravel. The areas of the trail that are loose gravel can be very dusty when it has not rained recently. The scenery along this trail ranges from mature forests mixed in with rolling hills as well as some large meadows throughout. There are also several short sections of lowland swamp.

Difficulty
This trail can be easily ridden by riders of all experience levels. Sight lines throughout the entire trail are excellent and allow for unobscured views of what lies ahead. The trail is more than wide enough for vehicles to easily pass each other. The surface of this trail can lead to an excessive amount of dust created by vehicles when there has not been rain recently. There are also several private properties located off this trail, so traffic in some portions can be busier at times.
History
The Calumet Mine was located at roughly 45.9654, -87.83439. While very little information can be found about this mine, it was opened in the late 1800's where it was used as an Iron Mine for several years before eventually closing down. Unfortunately, there are no mine remnants that can be seen from the trail.
